The first big event of the year 2007 in the Europe was held in Odense, Denmark. The best European drivers plus Paul Lemiux from USA and Shin Adatchi from Japan came to compete in one of the most popular carpet races in the Europe: the DHI Cup.

Team XRAY was again one of the strongest teams and again was the most popular car in the both Stock and Modified classes. Drivers who competed at this race included Jilles Groskamp, Teemu Leino, Paul Lemieux, Martin and Juraj Hudy, Alexander Hagberg, Andreas Myrberg, Steven Weiss, Markus Feldman, Martin Christensen, Martin Lissau, Jonas Anderson, Bastian Hennig plus huge Denmark, Sweden, and German teams.

The track layout was completely changed from the last years’ track, causing a lot of problems for all drivers because the track was made only from curbs which resulted in a changing layout all the time. Also, there were no protection barriers except on the straightway and because of that there were a lot of conflicts because drivers who hit the curb could easy end up on the other side of the track.

The race started on Friday evening with two rounds of open practice and continued with 5 qualifying rounds on Saturday, from which the best 3 were counted, and then there were three final rounds on Sunday.
The race venue consisted of two classes: Stock and Modified. The Modified class was the first race where the new EFRA rules were used. The biggest change in the rules was the use of 5-cell battery packs with a legal weight of only 1350g. Because we were extremely busy developing and testing NT1, we did not have enough time to test with 5-cell packs.

We tested the NT1 with some our drivers for the whole week before the DHI Cup, and we also tested on Friday morning. Because of that, we were the last to came to the race (1 hour before the first practice); however a lot of our drivers like Teemu Leino, Alexander Hagberg, Andreas Myrberg were testing 5-cell packs very intensively and we had very good feedback.
So, after open practice we were happy because Jilles was the fastest and we were looking forward to qualifying rounds.

Only two rounds of practice caused a lot of problems for the team because many guys did not find the right setup and changing setups for qualifiers (where 3 best out of 5 were counted) was very difficult. Jilles’ and Alex’s cars looked best from our team and Jilles had a very good chance to qualify in a good position, but he had bad luck. On the other hand, Alex Hagberg had a very good weekend and he made his first big A-Main result.

Paul Lemieux did not have much time at home to test rubber tires, however he was able to make the A-Main. The rest of the team was really unlucky. Teemu had really big problems with the handling of the car and in the 4th qualifier round he realized that his servo is broken; unfortunately it was too late to make it into the A-Main but at least he was able to make the B-Main.

Martin had a lot of bad luck as well. He was changing setup all the time and worked on it 2? hours between rounds, but he was not able to find a good setup and ended up in the C-Main. Andreas had some electronic problems and completed only 2 rounds. Guys were all the time looking for a good setup and almost all drivers had different setups. For example, Jilles, Teemu, Paul, and Martin had batteries in the rear, and on the other hand Alexander, Andreas had batteries in the front. Some drivers used a spool and some used a one-way. So the differences in the pits were really big.

Finals were again very unlucky for our team because Jilles was always very fast after starts, but he crashed or got stuck in traffic. Paul had similar problems and was not able to move to the front positions. Alex had a very good weekend and at the end finished 8th overall.

Although we were very unlucky in the Modified class, we succeeded in the Stock class. Team XRAY driver Bastian Hennig from Germany had a very good weekend and won the Stock class. Bastian qualified second behind Dennis Fadtke but he was fastest in the finals. Bastian won the first and third finals when he took the lead in the beginning and he did not give any chance to his competitors. This was his second big winning race after the Orion Speed Weekend.
