The weather forecast showed rain, rain and more rain, and true to the prediction the rain started after the morning practices. A lot of discussion went on and I thought it would be impossible to have a race. But around noontime the rain stopped and the sun came out. Because of the hard work from the club in digging drainage after the 2006 season, the track was dry after 1.5 hour.

The club is one of the biggest in Scandinavia – it is an RC Stadium with facilities for boats, off-road & on-road cars, and airplanes. The whole facility was built in 2004 and had a cost of more than 1 mio $. What a Club :) and it is located just outside Copenhagen!

I was at the track a few days before and after 4 fuel tanks of practice I had a good feeling. It was a very bumpy track but still fun and with high speed and lap times around 34 seconds. For the race day I made some changes mostly around tires. Dry clay is good with GRP Atomic, but very soft is super so I used GRP Cubic in qualifying and had a very fast car. Switching from Tornado fuel to MeccaFuel meant that my Novarossi 367 Plus had much more power and stability, so my standard setup for bumpy conditions gave me the car I wanted. Because of the high grip I also changed to a harder rear anti-roll bar and in the rear I went down to 2° toe-in. These changes gave me much more steering and I did not have to push hard to get it around corners.

I made it to the final pretty easily and at this time it was a very fine and dry but bumpy track. For the final I switched to GRP Joly and raised the right height by 1mm. In the warm-up laps I could feel the good balance and after a bad start I was able to move up in second position within a few minutes. My biggest competitor for the Danish National title, Steffen Culmsee, had the lead and I was right on the tail of his car and with a faster fuel stop (my father is still fast!!) I took the lead and at the next fuel stop I had a one lap lead. Around 25 minutes Steffen unfortunately had to retire with at broken car and it was now a matter of driving it home safely.

It was a nice victory and in the overall position of the Danish Championship with 3 races done and 4 more to go I can enjoy a comfortable lead. Another good thing about Danish off-road is the young and new drivers; most are rising stars and in the pictures we can see how they also enjoy the time in the pits, perhaps discussing driving lines :).

Final results:
1. Peter Harder XRAY XB8EC
2. Thomas Mikkelsen
3. Rune Gustavsen
4. Anders Thue Pedersen
5. Jens Schou Jensen

Next up is the Mugen World Race in Furulund – a track that I visited as a spectator for the Worlds in 2004 and where I decided to start racing 1:8 off-road. I'm very much looking forward to racing there!
