The Nordic Championship took place at the great track Goteborg in Sweden. There were 80 drivers among two classes - 1/8 & 1/10.

Race report by Martin Christensen

I started practice on Thursday and my car was very good right from the beginning, so I was confident. The car handled very well but it needed some work. This track was a little bumpy so the car needed a good setup to be fast and consistent for a 45min final. The NT1 was easy to change. I changed to a harder front diff (150000) because the traction was good and the car was easier to drive with the harder diff while still being fast. Normally I use the 25T front pulley but I tested the 26 pulley and this was better, giving more on-throttle steering and this is just what I needed at this track. Again I used 37 front tires and 40 rear tires, which gave excellent steering and the tire wear front and rear was perfect. I used the new 4mm chassis which is better at this track (I did not need much flex) and with the stiffer classic the car was more stable.

When we started qualifying I had a good feeling, since my car was fast and so easy to drive. I won the first 3 rounds of qualifying with 2second, but my engine cut in the last round and this round was the fastest because it was run in the evening so I lost the TQ spot to Roland Strrom from Sweden.

I stared in 2nd starting position in the final, and took the lead on the first lap. I was leading the race by 5-6sec until the 35 min... it was that close. I started to have problems. My car was being difficult to drive, and I was thinking that I did not have any rear tire left. (It turned out that this was not the case. I could see after the race that I had made a mistake with the ride hide of the car, but because of the PMT tires I used it was fine after the 45min race.)

So for the last 10min Roland and I were battling for the win. I had the lead for most of the time, but in the last minute Roland passed me... but then a lap later he ran out of fuel! I crossed the finish line in 1st place, taking home the victory. I was very happy for taking the overall win and trophy of Nordic Championship for Team XRAY.

I also recorded the fastest lap at the event - 15.2sec - proving that not only is the NT1 is super fast in a single lap but is also consistent and fast over a long final which is very important in the nitro racing.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank to my sponsors: XRAY, HUDY, SIRIO, and PMT Tires.

See you next time at the Euros in Madrid !
