The UK 2008/9 Winter indoor series kicked off with Carpet Wars at the premier indoor venue of Maritime Raceway, Chatham in Kent. With just over 100 attendees covering 4 classes of racing it was always going to be exciting and varied event.

The permenantly laid track is novel within the UK and this is built within the historic dockyard overlooking the river Medway. Many spectators took the opportunity to soak up some history and a stroll around the dockyard on a very warm autumn day outside. Whilst the temperatures were rising indoors.

The club had recently added further improvements including additional pitting to accommodate approx 110 drivers, up from 80, each with their own pit space served by mains electric. Additional features were added such as 4 large screen TVs, CCTV coverage and recording of the track. Over the weekend the "Maritime Munch" canteen was kept very busy, serving hot food and snacks, whilst a small living area with TV, videos and games kept smaller children happy. The club have made a major investment recently and this is available for testing on most Saturdays at low cost.

There was controlled practice in heats on the Sunday morning and the format was 4 qualifiers and 1 final.

The initial modified qualifier saw Elliott Harper's XRAY T2'008 set the pace taking FTD in front of Olly Jefferies and Chris Grainger. Team mate Brian Eldridge was also going well placing his XRAY T2'008 into 5th place. Again in the 2nd a similar result and in the 3rd Elliott's Xray was showing some blistering pace setting the only 27 lap qualifier of the weekend and taking FTD by some 8 seconds in front of Olly. In the 4th qualifier Elliott again pulled out in front and was faster but made a mistake which meant he needed to be marshalled. By the time he was marshalled back onto the track he had lost 5 secs and was well down the pack. Elliott tested the car for about a lap and took off at full speed again eventually catching and racing behind Olly for about 4 laps until he squeeze past but couldn't open up a greater lead than the one second split and this is how it finished, with Elliott just short of a clean sweep on the day. Overall, Elliott took TQ by 8 seconds infront of Olly, with Chris a further 2 seconds back. Brian Eldridge also had a qood qualifying and was optimistic about his chances for the final as he lined up 5th on the grid.

The final also showed how quick the XRAY T2'008 was on this high grip track as Elliott began to pull away. However, it wasn't an easy track and Elliott got caught up a few times behind backmarkers but was able to win the final by just over half a lap in the end. This is how it finished with Chris Grainger finishing 2nd and Andy Childs 3rd. Brian Eldridge finished 4th on the day and was very happy with the performance of his XRAY T2'008.

Kevin Brunsden came back to indoor on road after a summer season outdoors racing 8th rallycross. Unfortunately, in Kevins first qualifier, his transponder didn't count and therefore had no time counting. He made up for this in the 2nd qualifier coming 2nd and followed this with 2 wins taking the class FTD on the day making it 2 TQ's for XRAY! Kevin then drove a fine race in the final from the front and came home a clean and clear winner in the 19T/ 10.5 super stock class way out inforont showing the pace of the '008 car!
