The German Indoor Championship was held in Althengstett (near Stuttgart), with 48 drivers in the Modified category and 66 drivers in the Sport category.

MCSS Althengstett organized the Championships and they did a really great job. The track layout was very demanding for drivers, and the whole race course was simply perfect.

Friday afternoon the drivers set their places in the driver area and complete their preparations. Almost the entire SMI/XRAY Team enjoyed the evening at a common dinner.

Saturday began with two timed practice runs. The SMI/XRAY drivers showed a good pace in both classes. The T2’009 worked well, even in the low-grip conditions early Saturday morning. The first three qualification rounds were held Saturday afternoon.

Sport Class

From the first qualifier, Eric Dankel was the man to beat. With his fast, constant and exact runs, he set the pace in every qualification run. The gap to the other competitors had risen during qualification to up to 11 seconds after two counted qualifiers. Eric was the Pole sitter in the A-Main.

Even for the other positions in the A-Main, the SMI/XRAY drivers were the ones to be beaten. Meik Niemann, Matthias Lang and Tim Wahl also show a great pace in the qualification rounds and set positions 2-4 in the A-Main. So the top 4 spots on the grid were held by SMI/XRAY drivers. Thomas Mirke was also in the A-Main. The XRAY T2´009 was the most used car in the A-Main.

XRAY driver Florian Ring was very unlucky, missing the A-Main by only 1 second but setting the pole position in the B-Main.

Eric dominated the three finals. Right from the start he drove away from the other drivers, taking full advantage of his Pole position. Eric won all three Finals by a huge gap. So Eric won the German Indoor Championship in the Sport Class. Congratulations!

The battle for 2nd place between the other XRAY drivers was very tight and interesting.
Meik Niemann took 2nd place in the first A-Main. Thomas Mirke profited from mistakes of others in this Final, and he finished in 3rd place.

In the second A-Main, Matthias Lang showed a better performance of his car and defeated the ‶final fighter※ Meik Niemann, setting 3rd place in this Final. This meant that the third final would be the decisive one.

In the third Final, Matthias was the one on a better pace, and he put pressure on Meik.
In the end Matthias was the lucky one who reached the 2nd overall spot. Mike’s car was damaged by a collision with another car.

Modified Class

XRAY Factory Team Driver Freddy Südhoff was the only driver who could follow Vice-World Champion Ronald Völker. Freddy and his T2'009 reached 2nd place on the grid. Through fast and clean qualifying rounds he put a gap of 6 seconds on Christopher Krapp who held 3rd place. So Freddy looked forward to the finals. The other XRAY driver who reached the A-Main was Steven Weiß ; he put his T2'009 in 9th place.

XRAY drivers Steffen Leinburger and Stefan BrĂĽck had a chance to reach the A-Main, as during qualification they were in under the Top 10 drivers. But in the last heat, the other drivers set a better pace and they dropped out of the A-Main. Steffen Leinburger set the Pole position in the B-Main, while Stefan reached 12th place.

We enjoyed very exciting Finals. Freddy SĂĽdhoff got hard pressure from Christopher Krapp and Marc Rheinard right from the start. But Freddy drove perfect laps and defended his position without any mistakes. Ronald Völker benefited from the hard battle for 2nd place and increased his gap. Freddy held 2nd place until Christopher challenged him and unfortunately touched Freddy’s car; Freddy lost control. Christopher and Marc Rheinard overtook Freddy and took over 2nd and 3rd places respectively; Freddy finished in 4th place.

The second Final began just like the first one. Freddy got strong pressure from Christopher and Marc, while Ronald took the lead with a large gap. After a few minutes Christopher challenged Freddy again, and again Christopher touched Freddy’s car… putting both cars off the track. Marc Rheinard took 2nd place.

All finals were really unlucky for Freddy. In the third A-Main he got a slight jump start so he received a 10sec penalty and lost all chances for a podium finish. Overall he reached 6th place.

Steven WeiĂź made up some positions in the A-Mains; in the third Final he reached 2nd place. His car really worked well in the Finals so he reached 4th place overall… narrowly missing the podium.

XRAY drivers dominated the B-Main, with Steffen Leinburger winning both B-Mains. In the first Final he had a close battle with his team mate Peter Deggelmann who reached 12th place overall.
