Race report by Danni Eyde-Nielsen
Round 1 of the Danish Championship was held at the M.M.R.C. club in Tollose on October 18th. We were driving with the FTQ system with three qualification rounds and three finals, both in the SuperStock class and Modified classes.

After practice on Sunday it was clear who the fight for 1st place was going to be between in both classes. In SuperStock the battle was between XRAY driver Claus Ryeskov, Steven M Olsen, and Caspar Morgen. In Modified class it was a battle between XRAY driver Soeren Boy Holst, Danni Eyde-Nielsen, and Mike Gosvig.

We had some free practice before the first qualifier on Sunday morning which I used to try my ‶race tires.※ There were many drivers who had problems with the carpet fibers being burnt into the tires, so they lost traction in the rear end. I had to make sure that my tires didn’t do the same!

1st Qualifier: I didn’t have problems with the tires and my car felt very good in practice, so I was pretty confident for the first qualifier. My car was very difficult to drive for the first 3 laps and I lost some time to the other drivers, but after those 3 laps my car suddenly became must better. It was just perfect and I was driving very fast lap times. I came up on the other guys pretty fast and took over the lead for the rest of the qualifier. XRYA driver Soeren had a lot of trouble with his car; it was sliding all around on the track and he really had to concentrate a lot to keep it on the track. Unfortunately he wasn’t able to keep his 2nd place and ended up in 3rd place.

2nd Qualifier: I already had 5sec lead but I wanted to make it bigger because I knew my car was fast and easy to drive. I took the lead from the first lap with XRAY driver Soeren Boy Holst following. My lead increased more and more, and if didn’t make any mistakes I could drive 29 laps. After 3 minutes I was way ahead of the other guys when I hit a curb and put my car onto its roof. I quickly got onto four wheels again but lost 2sec because of it. I finished 1st with a 28-5.00 time. Soeren ended 2nd with a 28-5.09

1st A-Main Modified: I took off pretty fast and started to increase my lead from the first lap. I had a very big lead after 3 minutes, and had overtaken the entire field except for the 3rd spot driver and the 2nd spot driver (Soeren Boy Holst). After 4 minutes I had overtaken 3rd spot by a lap and was 9 seconds from Soeren Boy Holst in 2nd place. I was pushing my car very hard to put a lap up on him. My car was more than perfect this time, and I could just set my car on the famous ‶XRAY cruise control※ and finish in 1st place. XRAY driver Soeren Boy Holst ended in 2nd spot.

2nd A-Main Modified: I was very confident in the second final as I knew my car was just perfect. I got a good start again and was quickly getting a nice lead because Mike hit the curb which resulted in all the other drivers driving into him. So I had a nice lead now, but unfortunately Soeren lost a lot of time. He came free and was in 3rd position now after Mike Gosvig. After some laps he was able to make a clean pass on Mike, but Soeren was hit hard from behind and his body got stuck under the rear wheel.

Fortunately, the body came out again in the next turn, so he only lost a second because of it. I was coming up on Mike to lap him and I got through without any trouble. However, Mike drove right into the rear of my car and my body got stuck under the rear wheel just like happened to Soeren. I had to wait for the marshal to bend my body out again, and I came out right in front of Soeren now. We had a nice battle for the win. I had some breathing space after a few laps and could again use the famous ‶XRAY cruise control※. While I was cruising to the win, XRAY driver Michael Johnsen fought his way up to 3rd spot. Again Mike Gosvig was showing bad driving skills as he drove into Michael very hard. Michael ended up off the track with a very tweaked car, and wasn’t able to reach Mike in 3rd spot so he ended up in 4th spot. I ended winning and secured top points at the first round of championship.

3rd A-Main Modified: I was already assured of my 1st place so I wasn’t nervous for this final. It would have to go really badly for Soeren to not get 2nd spot. I got a good start and started to get a bigger and bigger lead. Soeren quickly passed Mike, and then Mike’s spur gear went after 4 laps. I took the opportunity to play with Soeren and let him come up to me. I let him pass me and we had a nice and very fun battle throughout the entire race. He took the win in the last final.
