Race report by Peter Harder
This past weekend, 83 drivers were together in the TiMo club in the southern part of Denmark (close to the German border). It was a combined weekend of 1/10 touring and 1/12 pancar racing with a very nice and new layout. It’s impressive how some clubs can manage to organize races so well.

The 1/12 pancar class is growing and this year the class attracts more of the big names who normally also run other RC classes during the year. 1:10 touring car driver Steen Graversen just came back from a international touring car race with a podium finish, and also DHI Cup SuperStock finalist Carsten Madsen and multiple-time 1:12 winner Jimmy Bigum were attending this race.

During the 3 rounds of qualification there were very close battles between Steen Graversen and XRAY XII driver Peter Harder. The first round went to Peter who also put in the fastest lap. The second round was also a close battle and the two drivers hardly made any mistakes; Steen would take the fastest run with less than 0.6sec faster than Peter. The third round would decide who would take the TQ. Throughout the last heat Peter had the lead only to finish less than a second ahead of Steen. Both drivers had made the same fastest lap: 12.19 seconds.

Qualificaion ranking:

1. Peter Harder XRAY XII

2. Steen Graversen
3. Jimmy Bigum

The race was on a new carpet and the grip increased during the race. In the last heat, Peter’s car started traction rolling so for the final the outer sidewalls were glued. The majority of the drivers ran NiMH batteries and it seems like the best solution on a medium/big sized track, but no doubt that the future is all about LiPo. Peter’s car was powered with a NOSRAM speed controller, Evo 4.5T motor and 4600mAh Big Mama cells. He should have ran a 5T motor to increase the run time.

The first final was close with Peter taking the lead, but midway Steen passed Peter who due to the sidewall glue had an understeering car. Steen held onto the lead, making no mistakes with Peter coming in second. In the second final, Peter made some minor changes to the car (including mounting the o-ring in the front alu active brace link to increase the steering. Again Peter took the lead from his pole position and built up a small gap ahead of Steen, but the very experienced and super-fast driver Steen Graversen took up the chase and with some great driving once again crossed the finish line just in front of Peter. In the third final Peter had the lead for 6 1/2 minute but Steen took the third final victory less than 2 seconds ahead of Peter who needed some more run time. The only drivers to have sub-12-sec laptimes were Steen and Peter.

Final results:

1. Steen Graversen
2. Peter Harder XRAY XII
3. Carsten Madsen

Next up is the small technical track in Bramming the first weekend of December. Maybe more drivers will have LiPo in their cars and sure it is something to test in the XRAY XII as well.
