Race report by Martin Hudy
The Buggy Party race held in Pattaya, Thailand is a very popular Asian race and because the next off-road World Championship is going to be held at the same track, this race attracted even more racers from all over the world. This race was also the first warm-up for the upcoming Worlds for XRAY as well. Team XRAY was well represented by drivers from Thailand, Singapure, Malaysia, Indonesia, Kuwait, as well as by Juraj and Martin Hudy and Teemu Leino. XB808 buggies are one of the most popular in Thailand and therefore XRAY was one of the most used cars at the event.

The race was held in three classes: Buggy, Truggy and Big Foot. The race started on Thursday with four rounds of practice, followed by three rounds of qualifiers on Friday and the finals on Saturday and Sunday. The track was very challenging with many jumps and technical parts. The track was even more difficult on qualifying day when the organizers put vegetable oil on the track and therefore traction was very low.

The new XB808 2010 version was working very well already from the first practice and therefore drivers didn’t have much work to do… only to learn the track layout and to make some small set-up changes to make the car perfect. The fastest XRAY drivers in the qualifiers were Teemu (qualified 4th), Charlee from Thailand (qualified 10th), Surikarn (qualified 13th), and Glenn from Singapure (qualified 20th). All these drivers went directly into the semi-final. Many XRAY drivers were directly qualified in the 1/4-final together with Martin and Stanley from Indonesia.

The XRAY Truggy was also working very well and Teemu, Martin, and also Juraj qualified into the main final without changing anything on the truggy from the first practice. Teemu qualified 2nd, Martin 9th, Jason from Indonesia 14th, and Juraj was last in the final 15th place. So in total four XRAY cars were in the top 15 final.

The finals on Sunday were held in very hot conditions (36°C in the shade). The semi-finals went very well for XRAY when all four drivers in the semi-final bumped up into the main final. Teemu had really bad luck with two flameouts during pit stops, driving 10 minutes with an unglued tire, and driving whole semi-final with a broken radio where the throttle finger was broken and not moving freely. However, Teemu still could handle it and finished in the last bumpup 7th position by passing driver in front of him by over jumping him one meter before the timekeeping line.

The final was not so lucky for anyone from Team XRAY. Teemu was driving in a good position when the bearing in the clutchbell got stuck. After changing the bearing he lost many laps, and his chance for a good result was over. Charlee had some problems with electronics and spend many laps in the pits as well. Glenn lost his wing and was driving more than half of the final without it. Surikarn had many flameouts. We conclude that in this final, luck was not on our side.

Teemu had bad luck in Truggy as well when he had some engine problems at the start which caused him to lose almost one lap. After that he was pushing very hard and moved up to 2nd position; in the end he was driving only a couple of meters behind the leader but he made few mistakes by trying to pass the leader and this cost him a chance to win and so he finished in 2nd position. Martin was driving in 3rd position when his steering servo broke. Juraj had a very clean run which allowed him to finish in 6th place. Jason, a very young and talented driver from Indonesia, finished 13th.

Even though the final day was not that lucky for us, we were happy overall because car was working very well. This gives us good confidence for the upcoming World Championships. Plus, XRAY was one of the most used cars at the event and all drivers were more than happy with car performance.
