Race report by Martin Hudy
Round 4 of the popular ETS series was held March 5–7 in Warszawa, the capital city of Poland. The race was organized into 3 classes: Modified, Stock, and Hobby and the super huge carpet track was in an enormous sport center building. The track was really amazing because of its size; it was the same as an asphalt track. The layout was pretty easy with long, wide sweepers an two long straights.

Team XRAY was represented by Martin Hudy and David Ehrbar (Germany), Magnus Vassmar (Sweeden), Zdeno Kunak (Slovakia), and Zdenek Hamak (Czech Republic). Because the race was held in central Europe, many drivers from the eastern part of Europe attended the race because it was not that far for them. I had the opportunity to meet new and nice people from Lithuania as well as Romania.

The race started on Friday with five rounds of practices. The first Modified qualifier continued on Saturday with the rest of the qualifying rounds. In total there were 5 rounds of qualifying and two best were counted.

In the Modified class, our team was really unlucky because from the beginning we had four cars in the final and in the end only two. The unluckiest driver was Zdenek Hamak who was fast enough to be in the Top 3, but problems with electronics in the last qualifier and some problems with traffic in early runs cost him the A-main. Before the last run, Zdenko Kunak was in 8th place and would easily have made the A-main but in the last run when he was on an A-main pace he was booted off the track by another driver whom he had passed. Magnus had a chance to make the A-main as well, but in the last run when he was on pace he traction rolled only two laps before the finish.

The fastest XRAY driver was David who was driving very well and fast and was sitting in overall 3rd place until the last round when the order got mixed up a lot. My car was working really well but I had problems with unexpected traction rolling. I flipped several times while in good positions, and before the last round I was in the B-final. I knew that I would need to drive without mistakes and therefore I took it really easy and went into the corners without throttle to avoid the chance of traction rolling. While slower, this driving style allowed me to finish in overall 3rd place in the last round.

In Stock class it was Zdeno Kunak who was on right from the first practices. It was amazing to see that he was 0.3sec faster than Alexander Stocker who so far won almost all ETS rounds. However, Alex was able to find a good set-up so the differences between these two drivers were minimal. In the end it was Alex who set TQ ahead of Zdeno. The XRAY T3 was working very well in the Stock class, and this was proven by German driver Jan Gehrig who was driving XRAY for the first time and immediately qualified in 3rd place. He was more than happy with the car because he liked the stability, steering, and traction. In 4th place was Oliver Franky, another XRAY driver from Germany.

The track was very big and wide and therefore the finals were not very exciting to watch. One mistake and a driver had no chance of fighting for a better position. I made several changes to my car to avoid traction rolling. I went to 550 shock oil, put O-rings on the front shock shafts to decrease rolling, and for downstops I went to 7mm (front) and 5.6mm (rear). The car was excellent and I was able to fight for top places! In the first final, David finished 3rd and I finished 4th ; this was a very good start for XRAY. Unfortunately, I had big problems with the driver who was starting in front of me because when I passed him in the 2nd and 3rd finals he immediately crashed me which caused me a lot of time and I had no chance to fight for the top places anymore. David was really fast and could make the top 3, but in the end he finished 5th with the same points as 4th.

In Stock class, the battle for the win was between Alex and Zdeno. Zdeno had several chances to pass Alex but he was driving carefully and was waiting for Alex’s mistake. However, Alex did not make any mistake and won the race ahead of Zdeno. Zdeno received many compliments for his driving ethics and fair play behavior. The 3rd place went to Oliver and 4th to Jan.

Final results - Stock:

1. Stocker Alexander
2. Kunák Zdenko XRAY T3
3. Franke Oliver XRAY T3
4. Gehrig Jan XRAY T3

5. Wohlgemuth Daniel

Even though we did not win any class and I was really unlucky and upset from some drivers driving styles and ethics, I was happy that I was able to meet new people and help XRAY drivers with their set-ups, and I enjoyed the atmosphere of this great event.
I would like to thank the entire ETS team and race organizer Miko from Poland who gave me a beautiful and tasty cake (in the shape of formula 1) that I received as a birthday present because I was celebrating my birthday on Friday. Thank you very much!!!!
