Race report by Danni Eyde:
The 7th and last round of the Danish Championships was held on March 27th and 28th, right in a big Danish shopping mall (City2) just outside Copenhagen. The club B.R.C. did a great job of organizing this final round of the Danish Championships. We had about 50 drivers driving in 3 classes; Modified Touring, Super-Stock Touring and ‶Funny Car※.

I was already sure to be the Danish Champion as Soren (which was 2nd) had to take TQ and I had to be 6 positions behind him. So we had 2 heat practices before the 4 qualification rounds on Saturday, and one more round of qualifiers and 3 finals on Sunday. We were driving with the FTQ system, but at this last round we had 5 qualification rounds total instead of 3.

I was pretty confident after the 2 practice heats, since the traction was increasing very fast, and my car was very consistent! I knew the battle for 1st place was going to be between Soren Boy Holst and me. I must say, I felt pretty confident for the race since I had already won 4 rounds and Soren had won 2 (and I wasn’t participating in one of those 2 race since it was on the same date as the Indoor EC).

I had a very BIG lead after 1st qualifier! Soren made too many mistakes and hadn’t found the right pace, while I was driving very consistent and through all 5 minutes. After 5 minutes I had a lead of 12 seconds! I drove a total time of 22 laps in 05.02. I kept improving every qualifier on my total time, and my car was very easy to drive. I just made very few changes.

After 3rd qualifier I had driven a 22-05.00 with a mistake that cost me 1.5 second, but Soren had still not found the right pace, and hadn’t even beaten my total time from first qualifier!
In 4th qualifier I finally made the 23 laps as the only driver. I still had a lead of around 5 seconds down to Soren. After this I could go home with a comfortable "overnight TQ".

We started out with 5th qualifier in the morning of Sunday. I tried to go from 6.2 to 5.2 in downstops for the front, to get some more speed out of the car, and since I already had a lead of 5 seconds I planned to stop if the car was good to save the tires for the finals.

At the first lap I sat the fastest time of the day, I drove 2 more laps and then Soren made a mistake. I choose to pull over and save the tires and just hope for Soren not driving faster than my TQ time. But this heat he finally had found the right pace, and was driving fast lap times, but he wasn’t consistent enough as he kept making mistakes which actually cost him the TQ time.
I was so happy that my TQ was safe. And the car was perfect.

There was a great battle for the TQ in the Super-Stock class as 3 drivers had the speed to take the TQ spot; it was Caspar Morgen, and XRAY drivers Claus Ryeskov and Thomas Hjeresen. It was Caspar Morgen who ended being the most consistent guy and could take TQ ahead of Thomas Hjeresen and Claus Ryeskov, and then Mads Groth Olsen on 4th position, also with an XRAY T3!

Modified A-Final 1: I got a very nice start and started to improve my lead fast! But after 1 minute my diff broke, and the car became terrible (This had happened to me before, so I think I will use the outdoor season for testing some different diff greases). I had a hard time keeping Soren behind me as my car was very hard to drive, and while we were going out on the straight away I came to close on the curb which gave Soren the opportunity to overtake me, I was pushing hard to pass him again, and Soren made a mistake after the chicane inside the track, and I could overtake him.
But again I made a stupid mistake and hit the same spot Soren made a mistake, and Soren could overtake me again. I was behind him for a while, but suddenly Soren was going a bit too wide at the end of the straight away. In a try to get pass Soren I hit him and he needed a marshal. Michael Johnsen could overtake Soren and me, while I was waiting for Soren to get on the track again. He got a good lead, so we had no chance to catch up on him. I ended up 3rd. My wing had been bent a bit in this final so I got disqualified in this final.

Modified A-Final 2: For this final I rebuilt my differential and my car felt a lot better on the warm up-lap. I got off just as good as first final, but this time I kept improving my lead. I was about 4 seconds ahead of Soren after 3 minutes, and could just drive safe and use the famous "XRAY Cruise Control"! I won this final way in front of Soren.

Modified A-Final 3: I had to win this final to win the race since I was disqualified in the first final. I rebuilt the diff again, as I wouldn’t take any chances! I got off the line very good (again) and Soren was following close on the first lap, but on second lap, I started to pull off from him and the rest of the guys. I was just driving safe and concentrated on not to hit any curbs. I was improving my lead very fast while Soren was struggling with keeping Michael Johnsen behind him. Michael had really found the right pace this final and was pushing Soren very hard to get by him, but Soren showed he had much more routine than Michael. I won the final. You could perhaps say that it was an easy win in this final. I was very happy as I was the Danish Champion now in an age of just 16 years, and with just 4 years of racing.

In Super-Stock we saw Caspar Morgen win easily in the finals, he had just found the faster pace than the other guys. Thomas was driving on 2nd place with 2-3 seconds up to Caspar, but he was also about 2-3 seconds in front of number 3. Claus Ryeskov which was very fast in the qualification rounds, wasn’t showing up on Sunday, since he unfortunately had family matters to attend, and he just had to drive his car in the A-final to secure his 3rd place in the Danish championship in Super-Stock. It was young XRAY driver Mads Groth Olsen who was driving his best race, on 3rd place. He did a very good job of keeping Steven M Olsen behind him even though he hadn’t the same speed as Steven. Steven couldn’t pass Mads, because Mads was driving flawless in all 5 minutes.

It ended up being a clean sweep for me by winning everything I participated in. These are my best results so far. I’ve just turned 16 years, and have raced in only 4 years, so I couldn’t be happier. I have been driving with the XRAY car almost since I started racing radio controlled cars and it has always been a pleasure. I really hope to have my international breakout soon!

I would like to thank all my sponsors: XRAY, North TQ, HUDY, Nosram, RcHouse and Harlequin to support me, who all have helped me a lot! I would also like to thank all my friends helping me getting this far, and especially my team mate Mads Groth Olsen, who have really done a lot for me!

And one man who I can really thank to get this far so quickly, I would like to thank Soren Boy Holst for teaching me everything! I couldn’t be more grateful for all the help!
