Race report by David Ehrbar
Three weeks after my recent win in Longwy, I decided to also take part at the club’s Friendship Series race number 3 as preparation for the GP3F in December. This time Anna and Jan came along with me, who both planned to take part in the 13.5T class, while I wanted to try to repeat my success from the last race. This time, the entry list was even better than last time, with Loic Jasmin, Lucas Urbain, Cyril N’Diaye and Oliver Bultynck.

Having arrived at the track, Jan decided to change his entry from 13.5T to the 10.5T class, where many top stock racers attended. Anna – for whom it was the first race with fast cars (adjustable timing speed controllers were allowed) – felt that 10.5T with turbo boost speed controllers was too fast for her, so she stayed in the 13.5T class.

Saturday was reserved for open practice. From the first battery I could see that my set-up from the last race was pretty good, and only needed some minor tweaks to make it perfect for the changed track layout and different tires. In the evening I had the fastest lap times by 0.1 sec, and both Jan and Anna adopted my setup. Around midnight, we decided we were well enough prepared for Sunday’s race and went to the hotel.

Qualifying
On Sunday, qualifying began promising. I starting the first heat from the 2nd spot, and closed the gap to Lucas. Unfortunate for him he flipped his car, so I had a clear track and won the first qualification heat with a 3-second lead. The other drivers improved their times over the second and third heats, but I kept the TQ spot ahead of Loic Jasmin and Lucas Urbain.

In 10.5T class, Jan managed to finish in the 2nd spot behind Tom Maquel, while Anna TQ’d the 13.5T class.

Finals
While I was waiting behind the rostrum for my first final, Anna had already won her first leg, and Jan was in the lead by 2 seconds after a crash by Tom Maquel. At this moment I thought, this could be a very particular race where all of us had a chance to win. Unfortunately for Jan, who was pushing to the max, he crashed while lapping another car. This cost him the lead, and he finished in 4th position.

Still, after Anna’s win in her first final, I had my very own pressure … I really wanted to win this race. After the first lap I had a small lead on Loic, but he closed the gap and we were driving for many laps bumper-to-bumper while we extended our lead. Only in the last minute could I open a gap of 1 second from Loic.

The second final was less exciting, as Loic and Lucas both crashed in the first minute, and I had a comfortable lead which meant I only had to keep focused until the end. After Anna had also won her second final, this meant a double win for us.

In 10.5T class, Jan resisted the pressure of his pursuers to finish 2nd in the second final behind Tom. In the third final, Jan applied huge pressure on Tom, who let him pass after 2 laps. Unfortunately, Jan’s car seemed to be difficult to drive, so he had no chance to keep the pace and when he tried to let Tom re-pass it ended in a big crash between Jan and the cars behind. At the end he finished in 3rd place.

Overall it was a very relaxing and successful weekend for us, and now we really look forward to the GP3F which will be held in December by the same club.
