Race report by Reno Savoya
Organised in association with Maugrafix racing decals, the D/R club near Asti (Italy), was hosting the 1st Italian Job race, which would see one of the best level of 1/8th off-road racing with names such as Batlle, Martin, Ronnefalk, Boots, Vega and the Italian mafia!

Many drivers were in attendance, but the rain was also part of the crew. Everything started great as we could run 3 practice rounds on Friday afternoon. I was one of the fastest during the 7minutes rounds. They used the 3 consecutive fastest laps in order to reseed. I was sitting 4th. One round was planed on Saturday evening but the rain started and the day was forced over.

Unfortunately, heavy rain occured in the night between Friday and Saturday, and the track was totally wet and muddy. Sadly, most of the F2 category and many of the PROs left. The organisers took the decision to race everything on Sunday as the weather planed to be more appropriate for off road racing.

On Sunday we had 3 rounds of qualifying, 30 minutes semi and 45minutes main. I fought for TQ as I TQed round 1, and finished 2nd in round 2 for less than .4sec! Unfortunately, I crashed early in round 3 and couldn't get better than 2nd.

The semis went pretty good as I found the proper setup for this very selective and restless track. I won by one lap over the field and would start 2nd on the grid. Some drops occured during the warmup laps so I decided to go with Dirt Effect, the minipin from Sweep racing. It wasn't the perfect choice as the rain stopped after a few minutes and I had less traction than with Battle Star.

After 30minutes, I was 2nd, really close to 1st place Eliott Boots when my throttle servo cut off. We had to bring the car back to the pits and replug in order to finish the race, but I lost too much time for getting onto the podium spot.

My car felt great all week end long, as weel as all the XB9 racing! Many F2 guys were racing the luxury Xray car and were please with its performances and realibity! Great job to everyone at the Maugrafix-D/R crew who did a fantastic job to clean the track and get the race going in the best conditions possible!
