Race Report by Chris Nielsen
The 6th round of the Danish DRCMU series was held in Birkerod, which is on the outskirts of Copenhagen. There was about 60 racers attending, and more would have joined them, but because of limited pit space, the organizers decided not to accept late entries. I was racing the 17.5 Blinky class for the last time, and having won the previous 5 events, the motivation to do a ‶Clean Sweep※ was high. I will be moving up to the Superstock class for the 7th round, which is also the last in the series.

The layout itself was an absolute joy to race, it was fast but still technical, and had a lot of different challenges. The carpet was the same as they use at the ETS, and for many drivers, this was there first time racing on this. I only heard a lot of positive feedback, and it sounds like quite a few clubs are interested in getting hold of this particular carpet.

Saturday was free practice, but we were divided into the heats we would run on Sunday. This was a first for a DRCMU race, and having experienced the chaos at previous events, this was a BIG improvement. I hope this will be a new standard for this series, but only time will tell.

Overall practice was good, it was my first time on the ETS carpet, but I felt at home very quick. I managed to set some very good times, and had the others playing catch up most of the day. The set up on my XRAY was close to what I normally run, but on this carpet I felt like I could run a harder suspension set up, and be a little more aggressive with the steering. The tires was key though, and after 5 or 6 runs, they dropped in performance, which was quite unusual for us Stock racers.

A1 was going to be key for me, because I needed to gap Bjarke quite quickly, so he would have to push from the beginning which isn’t his style. I managed to do just that, and after 3 laps I was clear of him, and I could pull away, extending me lead little by little every lap. I had a big scare, with about a minute left, when a back marker tried to let me through, but then turned straight into me. Luckily nothing happened, and I cruised home and took the win.

A2 I did exactly the same as A1, and it was a tone to tone run, with no incidents. It was very satisfying to cross the line, and to do it this way, against guys that have pushed me hard all year, felt great. I must have found something somewhere that they didn’t, but that’s racing.

A3 was again a tone to tone run, but I went out and gave it all I had, in every turn, on every lap. I had nothing to lose, so I decided to push myself to the limit of my abilities. In the end, I was about 2 seconds quicker.
