Chassis.

The XT9 chassis was completely redesigned to allow for updated weight distribution to improve chassis balance and stability and to accommodate new center diff position.

The chassis is CNC-machined from high-quality Swiss 3mm 7075 T6 aluminum, which is strategically machined in low-stress areas and is then anodized to make it as light as possible without affecting strength or rigidity.

Non-essential material below the engine, fuel tank, and diffs was removed to
allow for the lowest possible center of gravity and appropriate chassis flex.

All screw holes on the bottom of the chassis are countersunk, allowing for a
very smooth chassis underside with no protruding screw heads.

Side Guards.

The side guards have an updated design to compliment the new redesigned chassis. The tough composite side guards offer improved side protection, and fit perfectly to chassis to seal against dirt, and protect the fuel tank. The side guards are specifically engineered as a part of the Multi-Flex™ adjustment system.

Chassis Weight Balance.

As part of the new chassis design, the engine and driveline components were slightly repositioned. The center differential mount was shifted slightly to allow the engine to be parallel to the chassis centerline and align the central drive shafts as straight as possible. The layout of the electronics was designed to focus specifically on weight distribution and balance.

Radio Plate.

The 1-piece electronics assembly is very compact and can be quickly & easily removed for servicing and cleaning. You need only to release a few screws from the bottom of the chassis to remove the entire electronics assembly from the chassis.

The large molded radio box features a very clean design and layout that places the weight in key areas for proper balancing. The batteries are placed along the centerline of the chassis, and the lightweight receiver is placed on its side. The very easy-to-access radio box is mounted on the side of the radio plate and is released by only a few screws.

For racers not using a radio switch, a handy molded cover is included to help guarantee a leak-free radio box. The tight antenna tube holder ensures that the antenna tube stays attached even if the car flips.

Drivetrain.

The XT9 is a conventional shaft driven 4WD truggy featuring:

Drive Shafts.

XT9 constant velocity drives (CVDs) are manufactured from world-renowned HUDY Spring Steel™. The drive shafts are some of the world‘s thinnest yet most durable drive shafts used in off-road kits.

The central larger and stronger outdrives feature protective rubber boots, thick 3mm pins, and a protective locking ring.

All drive shafts and outdrives are hardened with a proprietary hardening process to provide unbeatable lifetime and reliability.

Diff Outdrives.

To ensure highest life time and reliability all the diff outdrives are machined from HUDY Spring Steel™. The inner portion of the outdrives are additionally hand-ground for maximum precision and fitment into the diff case. The outdrives are hardened using own special hardening process to provide extended life time and reliability.

Gear Differential.

Rubber-sealed composite differential housings feature steel inserts that are manually precision ground after the molding process to guarantee a perfect fit with no vibration. Differential internal gears are made from pressed steel, heat treated, and machined for ultra-precision and smooth operation.

Diff Gears & Drivetrain Ratio.

Differential main gears are manufactured from HUDY Gear Steel on a precision manual gear machine. This material was specially formulated and developed for use in gears. All gears are hardened to provide the longest possible lifespan.
A wide range of different gears — spur gear, clutchbell, crown gear — are available for perfect set-up and adjustment for particular racing conditions.

Clutchbells are available in sizes of 12T, 13T, 14T and 15T.

Spur gears are available in a range of 46T, 47T and 48T

Crown gears are available in a range of 41T and 43T

Clutch.

The clutch provides a smooth and continuous transfer of power from engine at very high RPM. The clutch system includes alu 1.7g lightweight clutch shoes, 1.0mm springs, aluminum flywheel and a steel flywheel nut.

Fuel Tank.

The extra large 150cc fuel tank is molded from special composite mixture which ensures very high reliability and rigidity. The molded-in splashguard protects the brakes from fuel spillage. The tank is mounted with rubber grommets to absorb vibration and small composite holders secure thick 5.5mm silicone fuel tubing. Included fuel filter is conveniently mounted to the side of the fuel tank.

Diff Bulkheads.

The diff bulkheads are an important chassis component, housing both the front and rear differentials and providing mounting points for the suspension mounts and shock towers. The XT9 bulkheads are strong enough to withstand the rigors of racing and extreme impacts.

The bulkheads have been designed for extreme durability, while still providing easy access for tuning and maintenance.

Suspension Concept.

The correct suspension geometry is one of the most important features of any RC model car yet at the same time is also one of the most difficult and challenging features for a designer.

The suspension is always a mixture of:
From the suspension arms, through the suspension blocks, to the light, yet robust steering blocks, every suspension part has been specially designed for 1/8 truggy racing platform to provide responsive racing characteristics in all racing conditions.

Over the years XRAY has successfully gained and utilized extensive knowledge of suspension geometry and stiffness, which has been applied while designing the suspension parts. The ultra-lightweight suspension parts are molded from a special composite material that makes the parts very light yet very durable to withstand the rigors of high-performance racing.

I.S.S.™ Suspension Holders.

The aluminum suspension holders feature Integrated Suspension Settings (I.S.S.) which allows for super fast, easy and comfortable suspension geometry setting. This XRAY concept was first introduced in the very first XB8 and now has been carried over to the XT9 platform.

Using eccentric suspension bushings, which are inserted into aluminum suspension blocks, as well with the additional use of suspension shims, the XT9 suspension geometry can be completely adjusted including:
A complete set of various eccentric bushings is included for complete suspension geometry adjustment. The bushings are inserted into aluminum holders which are machined from premium Swiss 7075 T6.

Suspension Arms.

All suspension parts on the XT9 were purposefully designed and developed for truggy racing. The super-long arms provide maximum stability while the optimum stiffness of all suspension parts ensures maximum traction under all different racing conditions. The super-long suspension arms ensure the best handling over rough terrain and excellent landing over big jumps.

Length, thickness, flexibility, geometry of suspension points and materials used… these are all the concepts and details that had to be thoroughly reviewed to create the optimum suspension arms.

The exclusive composite mixture used for suspension arms is a perfect balance between reliability and performance. The suspension arm itself is rigid enough to provide a responsive feel, yet soft enough to survive extra-long main events.

Caster Blocks.

The unique C-hub suspension on the XT9 features Integrated Adjustable CasterTM which enables adjustment of the single C-block through the entire caster angle range; no optional caster blocks needed! The C-block features an inclined kingpin design for increased steering and stability.
Total caster is the angle that the C-hub is to the flat chassis bottom. Caster is affected not only by front kick up but also by the C-hub caster and caster eccentric bushing. The combination of all three represents the total caster angle. The XT9 includes a 15°caster block with the centric bushing. 1 and 2mm eccentric bushings can be purchased as options.

Steering Blocks.

The super-lightweight composite zero kingpin steering blocks feature an inset aluminum bushing that is molded into the steering block itself, ensuring a lightweight, precise and durable steering block assembly.

This enables the kingpin screws to be firmly held in the aluminum threaded bushing while the end of the screw is self-locked in composite to prevent the screws from loosening during racing. The molded-in aluminum bushings allow the steering blocks to turn freely ensuring precise steering reaction. The super-tiny steering blocks are molded from a lightweight yet very strong and durable composite material.

Rear Uprights.

The uprights were designed to have a smaller design with less weight. The lower roll center position features 2 positions while the upper roll center positions features 3 different roll center positions.
The outer suspension pin on which the rear upright sits features 2 shims which allow for additional wheelbase adjustment.

Alu Hex Hubs.

Ultra-lightweight 17mm wheel hex drive hubs +2.00mm are CNC-machined from Swiss 7075 T6 black-coated aluminum.

The alu hex hubs are specially machined to reduce rotating weight while guaranteeing wobble-free wheel mounting.

To adjust the track width optional offsets are available -0.75mm, 0mm, +1.00mm, and +5.00mm.

Ball-Bearings.

A full set of 24 high-speed, blue-sealed ball-bearings are used throughout the drivetrain to ensure maximum efficiency.

Shock Absorbers.

The XT9 big-bore, long-stroke
shocks are all of special construction offering
increased downtravel, reliability and performance.

The XT9 shocks have all the parts fully redesigned and adjusted to the big-bore design
including hardcoated shock bodies, reinforced ball-joints, and shock balls with increased movement.
Lower shock nut gives superior shock shaft centering. Ultra-precise shock pistons feature 6-, 8- and 10-hole shock pistons. The longer shock shafts and shock collar combine to give increased downtravel. Ultra-fine shock protective rubbers give superior sealing against dirt.
The oversized big-bore shocks feature 18.5mm outside diameter shock bodies, externally threaded with an adjustable collar for quick and easy adjustment. The shock bodies are hardcoated, and features a 1-piece alu shock cap.

The large 16.0 mmm inner diameter of the shock bodies ensures proper and consistent shock oil flow through the perfectly-round pistons which move very precisely inside the smoothly-finished interior of the shock body. The result is more consistent damping characteristics of the shocks.
The new big-bore pistons are manufactured from well-proven specially-formulated composite material to provide smoother action and durability. The well-proven molding production process is used to ensure perfect roundness of the pistons after production, so that the pistons will move perfectly inside the shock bodies for identical shock action in all four shocks.

The shock membranes are wider to fit the big-bore shocks. The material has been also improved to guarantee the same damping characteristics from the beginning of the race to the end even after extreme operation.

The lower shock assembly ensures that the shock rod will move very freely inside the shock body but at the same time will minimize oil leakage and keeping the dirt away. Two shock O-rings – manufactured from a superior silicone compound to allow ultra-free movement of the shock rod while still maintaining a tight seal – are installed in the lower part of the shock body and are secured with composite shims. The entire lower shock assembly is secured with the lower aluminum shock cap which makes assembly/disassembly quick and easy.

The shock shafts are thick and robust to ensure they will handle any abusive racing conditions and big jumps. The 3.5mm thick shock shafts are precisely machined from special high-tensile steel and afterwards are ground for a super-smooth surface to ensure very free and smooth movement of the shock shafts in the shock bodies.

Shock Springs.

The springs, like all the other XRAY springs, are manually measured, selected and matched into pairs to guarantee precisely equal length and damping characteristics.

Shock Towers.

Machined from extra thick premium-grade graphite, the front and rear shock towers are lightweight and strong. Front and rear shock towers include multiple shock positions as well multiple roll center adjustment positions. The rear shock tower also holds the wing mount.

Chassis Braces.

The front and rear braces have significant influence on chassis stiffness and chassis flex and as such have great impact on handling under different grip conditions. The XT9 features the well-proven stiff composite braces for front and rear.

These braces are more than up to the task… strong enough to hold the chassis together after heavy jumps or crashes to avoid tweak or breaking, yet still flexible enough to generate the needed grip.

In the rear two braces are used to reinforce the back section of the truggy against the extreme forces of big jumps.

Dual Arm Steering System.

The dual arm steering system is very simple yet effective and features an integrated easily adjustable servo saver.

Ackermann is easily adjusted by quickly and easily changing steering link mounting positions on the steering plate.

Bump steer is easily adjusted by inserting shims between the graphite steering plate and steering linkage.

HUDY Spring Steel™ Turnbuckles.

To guarantee maximum reliability all turnbuckles are manufactured from special HUDY Spring Steel™ material for turnbuckles with a tougher core. These turnbuckles are used for front and rear upright linkages, steering system as well as for the servo saver.

Center Differential Access.

Access to the center differential is super easy by releasing the upper deck with only four screws. The lower center diff housing is sized to accommodate optional spur gears and the stands are lowered to keep the weight as low as possible and to allow smaller central diff gears to be used. The center diff housing stands hold the effective and race-proven brake system.

Brake System.

The XRAY XT9 features the well-proven high-performance braking system that is so strong, precise and dependable that is makes slowing and stopping effortless. Coupled with the chassis’ balanced load distribution, the extraordinary control imparted by the braking system give you complete confidence as you pitch the kit into the corner.

XRAY focused on all of the smallest details when designing the brake system. The laser-cut, precision flat-ground steel brake disk allows fade-free braking in conjunction with the special high-grip brake pads installed on the laser-cut brake plates. The brake disk is small, slim, and very light. The precision hand-grinding allows true, wobble-free rotation. Brake inputs are transferred precisely to the brakes thanks to the rigid high-precision machined brake cams. Both brake disk and brake pads are specially heat-treated for maximum lifespan.

Engine Mounts.

High-grade CNC-machined aluminum engine mounts are machined from lightweight alloy and help to dissipate engine heat. The engine mounts are easily adjustable from the bottom of the chassis to obtain proper gear mesh.

The engine mount has been specifically designed to extend up to the front engine bearing to provide higher reinforcement of the chassis in the longitudinal direction and in jumps will minimize the bending of the chassis between the clutchbell and spur gear.

Anti-Roll Bars.

Anti-roll bars are manufactured from spring steel material and are included to stabilize the chassis at both front and rear. The roll bars are easily mounted to the diff cases and can be adjusted through the adjustable linkages.

Front and rear anti-roll bars are included.

Additional anti-roll bars in different thickness are optionally available for fine-tuning your setup.

Air Filter.

The smooth-flowing and efficient air filter is made from two parts. Air filter oil is included as standard. The universal rubber elbow allows fitment to most standard 1/8 buggy engines.

Body Mounts.

The body is mounted on two strong composite body mounts with foam cushions both front and rear.

Wing.

Stylish and effective rear wing was designed to provide the appropriate amount of downforce and generate required stability for the chassis. Made from strong special composite mixture the wing will survive majority of abusive and extreme crashes and will keep the shape.

Rear wing holders are strongly constructed and offer different wing mounting positions. Made from special composite mixture to withstand abusive crashes.

Body.

The included low-profile racing Lexan™ truggy body perfectly fits the XT9.

Wheels & Tires.

XRAY Racing Dish Wheels are molded from light yet very durable material and are well suited for high-competition racing.

XRAY Thrax low-profile truggy tires are included in the kit. The low profile of the tires ensures high traction and high speed while the large sidewalls are designed for more controllable and consistent side bite. The tires are made from soft compound to generate sufficient grip in most racing conditions. A set of foam inserts is also included.

Silicone Oils.

XRAY Premium Silicone Oils are manufactured in Europe by a specialized premium silicone oil manufacturer; these new oils were exclusively created for XRAY. Each batch of premium oil is laboratory tested and calibrated to ensure the highest possible consistency and quality batch-to-batch. Based on the industry-standard cSt rating, the new line of oils will be easy to identify, adjust, and feel.

When following any setup sheets by XRAY or XRAY team drivers, you can be sure that the oils you will get for your kit will be exactly same as used by the factory racing team, thus ensuring very exacting setups and handling of the kit.

Graphite Grease.

The XB9 includes premium HUDY Graphite Grease which is a high-performance, advanced-technology semi-fluid lubricant which incorporates both extreme pressure additives and finely-dispersed graphite for load carrying. It is intended primarily for the lubrication of rotating parts and loaded gears. In addition to providing outstanding load carrying, it is formulated to have excellent adhesion and resistance to "fling-off" under extreme conditions. The grease reduces wear and increases parts life.
