Mario Spiniello Podium Finish for Team XRAY at the Nonno Calce Trophy
Last December 6th and 7th, 2025, we hit the track at the beautiful Teverola facility to compete in the Nonno Calce Trophy. The newly resurfaced asphalt immediately presented a challenge, offering an exceptionally high level of grip. This event was crucial for us, serving as a fundamental testing ground for the reliability and performance of the new 2026 Conversion Kit installed on our XRAY NT1.
The free practice sessions were entirely dedicated to refining the setup, a necessary task to best adapt the car to the high traction of the track. Initially, during qualifying, the setup proved too aggressive; the car had excessive grip which, unfortunately, caused stability issues and a distinct tendency to flip.
Fortunately, the responsiveness of the new package proved successful right away. Thanks to a few targeted adjustments, we leveraged the effectiveness of the 2026 kit to quickly resolve the stability issue. The hard work paid off, allowing us to finish qualifying with a good P3.
The main was a real spectacle, characterized by a high pace and great uncertainty. We started with a slightly conservative strategy, trying to preserve the tires for the long run. This tactic rewarded us, allowing for a steady climb back through the field that led us to take the first position.
Unfortunately, with only four minutes remaining, an unexpected situation forced us into an emergency tire change. Tire wear during the final proved to be significantly higher than the qualifying simulations, a direct result of the extremely sustained race pace. After pitting, we rejoined the track in P3. We managed to recover the lost ground, ultimately overtaking Oscar Vigneri with just a few laps left, crossing the finish line in a solid second place.
We are extremely satisfied with the potential demonstrated on the track. We have worked tirelessly on the development of the 2026 Conversion Kit, and we are fully rewarded: its effectiveness and adaptability are excellent.
With this podium finish, we immediately shift our focus to the
preparation for the upcoming racing season and the most important goal: the World Championship.
