The 2011 Charity Race was hosted by the A.S. Team La Gang club at their great indoor facility RC Landia located in Scandiano, just outside Bologna in Northern Italy. Since the club would be hosting the upcoming ETS Round 2 in January, it was a great opportunity to practice under the same conditions as would be present at that race. Both categories saw a strong XRAY team with many drivers. |

We arrived at the track on Friday morning to practice. We immediately noticed that the track was quite big, had high traction, but was rather bumpy. The most difficult part was finding enough steering without having traction roll issues. As practice went on, we started to work on our basic set-ups, making small adjustments every run to find the quickest pace. Martin was probably the one working the hardest, putting in 3-4 practice runs every hour. |

In the Modified class it was myself and Martin Hudy who were the strongest contenders for the win. In Modified, I was the fastest in practice and always within the top 3 throughout the race. My car was very good in the end. I was using a different set-up than what I normally use, with a gear diff in the front and different camber link and roll center positions. In the finals I was battling with Marc, Ronald, and Viktor for the podium positions. In A2 I was leading the race for two minutes after a mistake from Marc.
Unfortunately I was not able to battle for a 2nd place overall finish as in A3, Lamberto Collari flew across the track and landed right in front of my car which put me way back in the field. |

I was able to get up to 5th position. In the end, my results put me in 3rd overall. It felt great to finish on the podium, with the possibility to end up in 2nd place. I also set the fastest lap of the race with the only one being able to run a 13.5sec lap time. Martin also put in a strong performance, and finished 5th overall when he finished in two finals, 3rd and had same points as Viktor, just ahead of David Ehrbar. David, who has had some top international results lately, was also a strong contender here, driving fast and consistent and almost always within the top 5. New XRAY driver Alessio Menicucci was the fourth XRAY driver in the A-main; he qualified 7th and finished 8th.
Welcome Alessio! |

In Stock class we also had some favourites for the win with Francesco Martini just missing out on the TQ spot by a few tenths. Third on the grid was fellow XRAY driver Diego Macchioni, super fast but making a few mistakes. Diego possibly had the best handling car in the finals, but just missed out on the top position. Francesco was very fast but unfortunately had some trouble in the first two mains. In the last final he was able to cruise to the win which rewarded him with a strong runner-up finish in the overall results. A sensational result from XRAY driver Pier Luigi "Pigiolino" Guerrini was seen by a 4th place qualifying, and 7th overall finishing position. "Pigio" is one to look out for in the future! |

In the end, most XRAY drivers were very happy with their results and the handling of their cars. XRAY is very strong in Italy with a great team and atmosphere. Other than those above mentioned, the team featured some other friendly faces such as Marco Gennari, Giuseppe de Liguori, Massimo Michieli, Luca Toreggiani, The racers were given on-track support by distributor and Sprint RC owner Fabio Domanin. Many thanks to you all! |
