Race report by Mike Gosvig
The second round of the nationals was held in Hillerod RC Club, almost an hour driving from Copenhagen. The track is a high speed track, with some tricky sections, like astrotuff jumps, a lot of camber corners, and the big Neo-jump in the middle of the track, covered in astrotuff. I really like the track as there are both some small and big jumps, fast and slow corners and also some technical sections!

Saturday was race day for E-buggy and Nitro Truggy, the day started sunny with no rain and wind all day, so we were looking forward to a super good racing day. There were 4 qualifiers in both classes, the XRAY Team and the cars were ready to hit the track after one round of practice, my cars was pretty good from the start, I just needed to learn about my XT9 truggy, because it was the first race for me in this class, and I had no practice with the car.

E-Buggy:
I was able to take 3 out of 4 TQ’s with my XRAY XB8E, the car was so easy to drive all day, and I was very happy with my pace, and on track there was so hard to drive clean and fast laps, the car just did a great job! Rasmus Petersen was also doing a good job with his XB8E, he tried to reduce the weigth of his car and was only driving with 7,4v lipo battery, so we were hoping he could finish the 10 minutes long mains, because some prior testing showed that it could be a bit risky.

After qualifying:

1. Mike Gosvig – XRAY XB8E

2. Magnus Frandsen
3. Jan D. Hansen
4. Pelle Culmsee
5. Nikolaj Lamberts
6. Rasmus Petersen – XRAY XB8E
7. Daniel Rose
8. Henning Warner
9. Ole Klinge
10. Thomas Hansen

Daniel Rose started racing last season, and this was his first race, very good drive by Daniel Rose to make his first A-final on his first race!

Finals:

In the first final I got a perfect start, I was able to pull out a good gap, and every lap I could pull more and more away from Pelle and Magnus who was fighting for the 2nd spot. Jan D. Hansen overtook Magnus and Pelle and could hold on his 2nd place, right until my car went out of power on lap 7 out of 15 laps, I was trying to keep racing, but with a car that was not able to take any jumps I knew it would stop very soon. Jan D. Hansen was coming closer and closer, and on lap 10 my race was over as the car stopped with the electric issue. Jan took the win in this main with Pelle Culmsee in 2nd position and Magnus Frandsen in 3rd.

Second Final, I have fixed the Electric problem and the car was perfect from start to the finish line! I was able to pull a big gap after the 10 minutes main, my car was very fast and easy, I won this main with 24 seconds down to Pelle who had and very close battle with Magnus again in this main, but Magnus made some mistakes and could not catch Pelle again in the last laps. Jan who won the first main, finished 5th in this main. Rasmus Petersen with his Ligth version of the XRAY XB8E was able to drive his car to the 4th place in this main, very good job by Rasmus!

Third and last final, I again got a perfect start, I could pull away again, Leg 1 winner Jan D. Hansen could overtake Magnus Frandsen, and could stay in 2nd position in the rest of the main. Pelle was struggeling a little bit with some different tires, but got back to the 3rd spot. Again Rasmus made a good result with his little battery, and could take the 5th spot in this main!

Truggy:

I should race my first race with a truggy at this race, I had no time to get use to the car before the race, so I needed to learn and find setup on the race day. The car was good and easy, and the special with truggy is, it’s like it don’t care how much you pressure the car, it just drive faster. I could after the Qualifying get 3rd place overall for the main final race. Silas Hogholt was the TQ man in truggy and he was very fast.

8. Christian Schat
9. Tom Mortensen
10. Patrick Petersen

In the main, I got a good start I was 2nd behind Peter Harder, as Silas engine stopped at the starting line, so he needed to go back to the pit. Peter was a bit in front of me and looked like to have things in control, I was pushing a bit and could now see Peter in front of me, we had a good long battle, but then I made some small mistake, and Peter had a lead on 5 seconds, but then Peters car stopped with a technical problem, this allowed me to go in the front with Silas right after me, and we had an awesome battle where we made some nice overtake moves. A little over half way at the race I got a flameout, and Silas was now 10-20 seconds in front of me. Silas drove a very good race, after a tough start and got back in the lead, I was very happy with my performance with my Truggy and I learned it all the race day, I’m looking forward to the next race with the car!

Nitro Buggy:

Sunday was raceday for the buggy class. Again the sun was on the track with no wind at all! We got one practice round before we start qualifying, and my car and engine felt pretty good. In the qualys I was trying to find a good setup, and I was battleling with Silas and Peter for the TQ. Peter took 3 out of 4 TQ runs and Silas took 1 TQ run. Peter were running really good in his TQ runs, and was very fast. Silas also very fast, but some small mistakes so him go to 2nd spot after Qualys. I finished 2 and 3 in the qualys as I made some small mistakes, and was testing a lot of different setups.

Semi Finals:

Both Peter and I were running the Semi A final. I got a very bad start as on the first lap, a driver just took me out, and I was on the roof, and in the last position – also for this main I tried some different things on the setup, as I don’t liked. Peter was in the front, and it looked like an easy win for him in this main. But I found a good rhythm and could begin to come closer to Peter after some overtaking of the other drivers. When there was 8-7minutes left Peter and I was very close, and I could overtake Peter after the big Neo jump as I landed a bit shorter than Peter and I took the inside line. After this I was pulling a bit away, but with 4 minutes to go I roll the car on the astrotuff straight, and Peter was in the leas Again. This was how we ended the semi a final. I had maked the best laptime of the race with 37.2, peter where running 37.4.

Semi Final B, saw Silas had a bad start and then Pelle Culmsee and Magnus Frandsen picked up this main, in the start they were very close, but after 10 minutes Pelle had a good gap to Magnus in 2nd. Silas had a good pace, but made to many mistakes, and with 5´minutes to go he had damage the bottom of his shock, so in the last lap he was 4-6 second slower than normal.

The Main final:

I Tried to go clean through first corners and I think I was 5 after the second corner, then I go on the neo jumps and landed right behind Pelle Culmsee who was in the lead. I could feel that the changes have made to the main final, was very good and my car was easy with much steering, I stayed behind Pelle to make a clean pass. With Silas and the rest of the field behind me on lap 2, we go again on the neo jump, and Pelle make a mistake down in the cave of the Neo jump, some cars hit his car because they were in the air and landed on his car, and the car broke. Pelle was out of the main. I jumped long on the Neo, and had now I had Peter directly behind me, after some laps I could pull a gap to Peter, but I made a mistake on lap 11 out on the straight, it sent my car out back of the pit, and I lost around 16 seconds. Now I was back on track and I have Silas on my rear wing, Silas made a mistake some laps after, so now I needed to catch Peter Harder. My car was very fast and I made new fastest lap record 36.806. I catch Peter, and we had a long battle where I was in front and then made a mistake, and then Peter was in front.

I drove 7.30 minutes before refueling, Peter ran 9 minutes. I could overtake Peter and begin to pull a little gap, and after my refuel Peter was right behind me again, but I knew that Peter need to go to the pit soon, so I took it easy and tried to make the gap bigger. In the last minutes I was 15-17 seconds in front of Peter, but Peter had some technical problem with a throttle servo and need to retire for this main, with only 1 minutes left, Peter could hold on the 2nd place overall in this race. Magnus Frandsen came in 3rd spot 1 lap behind Peter, I Won this main with 2 laps down to Peter.
