The ORCA Cup event in Malaysia was held at the Kota Raja track in Klang, outside Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Drivers joined the race in 4 different classes. The race was held over 2 days on this quite bumpy and low grip track.

In qualifying I suffered from various problems that gave me some DNF results. I had to settle for 2nd place on the grid from TQ man, the local driver Azri Amri. Azri, who recently switched to XRAY, showed a very strong and consistent pace. He had found a really good setup for these difficult track conditions. On the Saturday night, I decided to do some major setup changes to my car, including changing from graphite to hard arms, going to harder damping, as well as a softer rear diff, to try and combat the difficulties I was having with the handling of my car. I also raised the ride height to try and help the car drive better over the many bumps.

In the finals, I was fighting with Azri for the win. In A1 I sent my car off the track in the sweeper, causing the bodyshell to break, resulting in another DNF. In A2 I managed to take the win after a mistake from Azri, about half way through the race. The same thing happened in A3 as I further improved the setup of my car, after a wheelbase change to the front suspension, making the car shorter.

In the Stock class, the XRAY driver, young Ryan Tan, took a convincing win with his T4’15 car. Congratulations Ryan!

In the Super Stock class, the local XRAY driver Amir KR was fighting for the win until the last moment. In the end he finished in a strong runner up position. Well done Amir, it was great to meet and race with you again! XRAY was well represented in the Super Stock class as well, with 4 cars making the A-final

On the Friday night, I held an XRAY Workshop session together with RC Planet Malaysia. Lots of drivers attended to receive some information about the new T4’16, as well as general tips and tricks regarding both T4 and NT1 cars! It was a great moment for the local racers to have some insight. I hope everyone enjoyed it!

I want to thank Azri Amri for all his setup input throughout the weekend. He really gave me a tough challenge at this track, and I look forward to working with him at other races in the future. I want to send out a big thanks to ORCA and Michael Lo in particular for organizing and inviting me to this race! Your hospitality has been top level as usual. Thanks also to Suah from RC Planet for your help and support! Coming back to Malaysia was a pleasure, and I hope to come back to visit soon again!
