Race Report by Jared Phair
The 2019 Hot Race Challenge is in the books! With just short of 200 entries, there was a good size crowd with fast competition in all classes. The track layout had a good flow, grip, and the changing conditions of the track definitely made it a challenge to navigate.

Over the course of Friday practice, the grip came up a lot with the sun really baking the sugar into the track. Track was starting to take shape for the weekend. Spent the day tuning shock package in the buggy to find the right balance, and in truggy was trying different setup geometries to find what felt best for my driving style. Saturday was qualifying, and while the cars were handling well by Q3 with the rougher and lower grip conditions, the time of day with where the sun was made seeing the track a bit tricky and ended up 6th in buggy and 2nd in truggy.

Sunday the track was pretty tough, as the track developed a small groove with noticeable loam outside of it. In truggy, tire choice being a little too soft kept me from catching the leader and so I held on to 2nd. In buggy, made a decision to switch to a harder compound fugitive keeping the driving really smooth and hitting the same line allowed me to move to 2nd by lap 2. Decided it was best to keep at my pace with the track conditions and went on to take 2nd.

As one of the bigger races in the northeast, the guys did a great job with announcing and preparing the track and keeping the program running. Thanks also to my dad Matt Phair for the continued encouragement and support at all the races we attend.
