Race report by Tom Yardy
After a 4 month lockdown here in the UK, it is been great to get back to some 1/10 off road racing! Telford Model Car Club Astro turf track was the venue for 2 Saturday club races, 2wd last week and 4wd this.

At the start of the 2wd event my Maclan powered XRAY XB2C 21 was feeling good straight away, but in practice the lap times were a little bit off, partly my rustiness but also because the car was a little stiff. We softened the car off for the start of qualifying and narrowed the track width a little which made the car much smoother. I took the overall TQ just ahead of Associated Tommy Hall and we looked forward to a good A main. Unfortunately, as it got later into the afternoon the temperature lowered and the grip level really dropped. I should have changed my set up more than I did and just did not have the grip I needed, making too many errors and finishing up 2nd behind Tommy with Schumacher Ben Pugh 3rd.

2WD results:
1. Tommy Hall
2. Tom Yardy - XRAY XB2 (TQ)
3. Ben Pugh

Onto the 4wd event and the layout this week was very technical and grip was up! My XB4C 21 was quick in practice again but the grip level was even higher than expected! We made some changes for the first qualifier and I was able to take TQ in the first round. The next 2 qualifiers were unfortunately littered with mistakes and I had to hope for a quick run in round 4 to take top spot. Sadly it began to rain heavily and therefore the times would be much slower and I had to settle for 2nd on the grid. By the time the main started the rain turned to snow and we decided to switch to the XB4D 21 instead. With the center diff in my car was feeling really good, but despite applying some pressure, Tommy drove a perfect race and I had to settle for 2nd again less than a second behind. Tommy older brother Jamie rounding out the top 3.

4WD results:
1. Tommy Hall
2. Tom Yardy - XRAY XB4
3. Jamie Hall

It is so good to be back and I look forward to running at more tracks in the coming weeks.
