This past weekend the last round of Austrian 1/8th IC championship took place at the beautiful AMC-Tirol track. In terms of overall championship, nothing was yet decided, therefore some tight battles were expected.
In the free practice which took place on Saturday, we saw great and tight battles between all of the championship contenders, with Nejc Mihelic (XRAY) tightly coming in 1st, Tobias Sutrich in 2nd and Sascha Klug (XRAY) in 3rd.
Unfortunately, the not so promising weather forecast came true just before the start of qualifications therefore the committee decision was to place drivers to lower finals according to the ranking of overall championship standings and continue the race on Sunday.
The lower finals on Sunday, continued in the wet race conditions, however both contender XRAY drivers Nejc Mihelic & Sascha Klug proceeded as 1st and 3rd in the main final.
Luckily, the track got dry just before the finals and the speed in dry conditions was decisive for the race placements and the overall championship. Sascha Klug (XRAY) faced bad luck as he had to take the timeout just before the finals and consequently started from the last place on the grid. However, Both Xray contender drivers showed amazing performance on the new RX platform as Nejc Mihelic (XRAY) set the fastest lap of the final and concluded the race on 1st place, tightly followed by the amazing performance of Sascha Klug (XRAY) and Tobias Sutrich in 3rd.
As the last race turned in favor of Nejc Mihelic (XRAY), he was crowned as Austrian national champion 2022 with the 3 victories in 4 races, followed by Tobias Sutrich and another XRAY driver and newcomer in this class, Sascha Klug.
