On the 17th of September, the 2nd round of the Schwedter Open Championship took place. The Schwedter circuit was, as always, in first-class condition and the weather also turned out to be perfect. It promised to be an exciting race-weekend for all participants.
Lots of the racers took advantage of the excellent weather on the Saturday to practice, so as to be able to have a well setup car for the race on Sunday.
After qualifying, the SMI team driver Sven Schlautmann took the pole position with his XB8; junior team driver Steffan Voigt was able to steer his XB8R to 8th place.
Sven Schlautmann was able to win the A semi-final with his XB8. The B semi-final was however was much faster, which meant that Steffan Voigt and his XB8R took grid position 3 for the final and Sven Schlautmann had to be content with grid position 4.

At the start of the 40 minute main final, Sven Schlautmann was able to move up to 3rd spot and then a few laps later up to 2nd spot. Unfortunately at the mid-way point of the race a bearing within the clutch began to seize, which meant that Sven had to avoid braking too hard in order to keep the motor running.

Thanks to a good deal of luck, Sven Schlautmann was able to hold on to his 2nd place until the end of the race and crossed the line 3 laps ahead of the 3rd placed driver.
A great weekend was topped off with the presentation of the trophies to the drivers.
