The NT1 chassis was redesigned to achieve better steering characteristics. The front of the chassis was widened to make the car less twitchy and easier to drive, the new front middle shaft holder is positioned differently on the chassis, and there are new holes for a new battery mounting system.
The chassis has enhanced performance in the corners. Overall, the chassis is very narrow to increase chassis flex and thus generate more traction and steering. The narrow chassis also minimizes the contact with the track in corners and eliminates the feel of the car ‘stopping‘ in mid-corner.
The lightweight chassis is CNC-machined from premium Swiss 7075 T6 aluminum and is strategically machined in low-stress areas to make it as light as possible without adversely affecting strength or rigidity. The area below the engine is machined to lower the engine for a lowered CG when using the optional engine mount and flywheel. The area under the engine also features air-flow cut-outs to allow extra airflow to cool the engine. The outer edges of the chassis have been beveled and screw holes have been countersunk to provide a smooth lower surface. There are provisions for graphite reinforcing inserts or additional balancing weights, front and rear to tune chassis stiffness, balance, and CG.
Due the nature of the aluminum material and the machining process, it is normal that the chassis may be slightly bent in the longitudinal direction.
