The race we attended last weekend was kind of an unpredicted one, because the warmup for the Spanish championship got suspended due to weather, so we had to improvise and race something closer to us. Luckily, the warm up for the Tonisport Cup was held on the same weekend and was near us.
On saturday we couldn't practice at all because of the changing weather, all the time that the track got to the dry point, it would start to rain again. So we went onto Sunday kind of blind, plus we were the first race to try the new Matrix 36R compound, so it was an interesting one for sure.
There was a reseeding practice at the first hour in the morning, where we could see the key difference between the HUDY tyres we were using till that day and the Matrix, not looking much alike. I could reseed on P8, while Luis got onto P1 in that round. Then we went onto the qualifying rounds. I clinched the first round TQ by 2 seconds to P2, while Luis got P3 in that round. After that qualy, we decided to make some changes in order to get the maximum performance out of these tyres, not being able to succeed on it, although the next two rounds were good enough to line up second on the grid for the finals, Luis lining up on fourth.
Finals were hectic, I was involved in good, clean and close racing with polesitter Aroca, much of it in the first final, where we crossed the finish line separated by .1 of a second, kind of a bittersweet having to settle for 2nd in that round. Next two were expected to be the same, although some errors made by the polesitter gave me a comfortable lead, which got me the win of the race. Luis had some misfortune on the first two finals where contacts were made and prevented him from getting a good result, on the last one he made a good start and took P2 in that final, awarding him P4 at the end.
